Donington BSB: Perie takes Supersport win number five
Bradley Perie took his fifth win of the Quattro Group British Supersport season with a Sprint race victory at Donington Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Appleyard Macadam Yamaha just held off a late charge from Jaimie van Sikkelerus (MPM Routz Racing Yamaha) with one time leader Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) taking third. Pole man Tom Booth-Amos grabbed the holeshot and led into Redgate but going down the Craner Curves, GP2 Championship leader Jack Scott crashed out spectacularly and as the riders completed the first lap, Booth-Amos led Harry Truelove on the second Appleyard machine by 0.792s followed by Johnston, Perie, van Sikkelerus and Jamie Perrin. Johnston moved up to second next time around, but Perrin was out of luck, crashing out at the Foggy Esses and Booth-Amos’s lead had come down slightly to 0.629s starting the third lap. It had come down further after another 2.5 miles had been completed with Johnston setting the fastest lap of the race and behind him both Perie and van Sikkelerus had overhauled the fast-starting Truelove. Johnston’s teammate Damon Rees was now up to sixth. Lap four saw Johnston hit the front for the first time, with another fastest lap and him and Booth-Amos were now more than 1.5s clear of third placed Perie with van Sikkelerus a further half second back in fourth. Booth-Amos regained the lead on lap six before having a huge moment exiting Goddards and that handed the initiative back to Johnston, but their battling was allowing both Perie and van Sikkelerus to close in, less than a second covering the quartet with five laps to go. Meanwhile, Truelove was still in fifth but had dropped almost six seconds behind the leaders and had his hands full with Luke Jones (Highsparks Ducati)
