Brands BSB Final: Perie does the Supersport double

Bradley Perie won the feature Quattro British Supersport Championship race at Brands Hatch on Sunday afternoon which also gave the Appleyard Macadam Yamaha team victory in their final outing.

Perie took his seventh win of the season ahead of Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) and Richard Cooper (BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha). Perie led off the line and continued to edge away in the early laps, his lead over Cooper after three laps almost three quarters of a second. Johnston slotted into third ahead of Perie’s teammate Harry Truelove, Jamie van Sikkelerus (MPM by Routz Racing Yamaha) and Tom Booth-Amos (Gearlink Kawasaki). Johnston moved ahead of Cooper for second on lap five and they were more than two seconds clear of the six-rider battle for fourth that now comprised Truelove, van Sikkelerus, National Junior Superstock champion Max Cook (Binch Racing Yamaha), Booth-Amos, Rhys Irwin (Astro-JJR Triumph) and Damon Rees on the second Ashcourt machine. Meanwhile, back at the front, Perie – who’s advantage was up to 1.2s at one stage – saw his lead cut to 0.7s by a charging Johnston and as they started the eighth lap, it was down to just 0.237s. Cooper was also closing in and was only half a second further back. Johnston took the lead for the first time going into Hawthorn half way round lap eight and it was now most definitely a three-way battle for the race win, Cooper having firmly latched onto Perie’s back wheel. Further back van Sikkelerus was up into fourth ahead of the impressive Cook with Truelove dropping back to sixth ahead of Booth-Amos, Irwin, Luke Jones (Highsparks Motorsport Ducati), Rees and Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki) as eight riders now disputed fourth.
