Dónal Óg Cusack: Mattie Kenny under pressure to deliver silverware for Dublin

Dublin manager Mattie Kenny is under pressure to deliver silverware for the Metropolitans this season, according to RTÉ GAA analyst Dónal Óg Cusack.

Kenny is into his fourth year in charge at Parnell Park, with the Boys in Blue having reached last year's Leinster final, an appearance that was disrupted by a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad.

There was some talk that Kenny might seek a job with his native Galway last autumn before he agreed a new two-year deal to stay on in his current job.

Speaking on Allianz League Sunday, Cusack said that he now needs to get the results on the field with Dublin.

"I'm a big fan of Mattie, he's done a solid job with Dublin over the years," the former Cork goalkeeper began.

"There's so much pressure on all managers now for results, it's almost turning into soccer. Unless Mattie gets success this year, and some silverware, I think he'll be under pressure to hang on after this."

Dublin battled to secure a draw against Waterford on Sunday afternoon at Donnycarney, and they've games to come against Tipperary, Kilkenny, Antrim and Laois in Division 1B.

Former Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald, who would have faced the Dubs with Kenny in charge when he was involved in the south-east, said that Dublin are trying to change their style of play this season.
