Domenicali: Mick in a Ferrari would be a ‘great prospect’

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali thinks Mick Schumacher following in his father’s footsteps at Ferrari one day would be a “great prospect”.

Domenicali was at the forefront of Michael’s career with the Scuderia as sporting director during the German’s most dominant years, and Haas driver Mick is currently also in Ferrari’s junior ranks.

Schumacher Junior was limited to spending the season at the back of the field in an uncompetitive car, but Haas did not focus any resources on improving their 2021 car in the hope of providing a solid platform for the upcoming season.

The Formula 1 boss said he is impressing given the machinery at his disposal, and hopes to see Haas offer him something more competitive under the new regulations.

“Mick is doing his job very well,” Domenicali said to Sport1, as quoted by Sky Sport in Germany. “In 2021, however, he suffered from not having a car with which he could prove his abilities.

“I really hope that the new Haas will give him the chance to show his talent.”

The current Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz has been lauded as one of the strongest line-ups on the grid, after a successful first year together and a significant amount of talent between them.

Leclerc is tied to a long-term deal with the Scuderia, and talks are reportedly set to take place regarding an extension for Sainz, meaning a seat with the senior team may not be available to Schumacher just yet.

But if the chance comes, Domenicali thinks Mick will be in prime position to make the most of it.

“I had the privilege of working with Michael at Ferrari and of course Mick in a Ferrari would be a great prospect for the future,” he said.
