‘Doesn’t suit Man Utd’ – Expensive flop backed to desert Ten Hag and return to where it all began
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been told why he should follow in the footsteps of Wilfried Zaha and return to Crystal Palace amid talk they’re ready to put an offer to Man Utd.
The right-back, 24, was once viewed as one of England’s most promising defenders. His star was on the rise during a stellar break-out campaign with Crystal Palace in 2018/19.
After just one full season of first-team football, Manchester United forked out £50m for the England international.
However, like so many major names at Old Trafford, Wan-Bissaka’s career has stalled this year.
He has split time with Diogo Dalot at right-back and is now fifth-choice at best for his country. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier are all ahead in Wan-Bissaka’s position.
United’s playing personnel will experience great change this summer with Erik ten Hag poised to reshape the squad in his image.
Few positions are safe, and the Athletic recently reported Crystal Palace are considering a surprise swoop for Wan-Bissaka.
The Eagles would not be able to afford anything close to the £50m they received three years ago. As such, the loan route was deemed the likeliest option.
Now, speaking on why a return to Selhurst Park makes sense, former Premier League striker, Kevin Phillips, cited the example of Zaha.
The Crystal Palace winger also moved to Old Trafford after making his name with the Eagles. However, like Wan-Bissaka, his time at United did not go to plan and he later returned to Palace where he has gone on to become a club icon.
Phillips reckons Wan-Bissaka simply isn’t suited to United and wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a return sanctioned.
