Manchester United planning summer clearout under Erik ten Hag

Manchester United are preparing for a summer clearout of players after new manager Erik ten Hag flew in from Amsterdam ready to start work.

Ten Hag is staying in London after arriving by private jet on Wednesday, and he will watch United's final game of the season at Crystal Palace this weekend from the stands.

The Dutchman is set to meet with the players for the first time when he officially takes over on Monday, but will have no direct input until then out of respect for interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Up to 10 players are expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, as Ten Hag seeks to make a fresh start.

Representatives for England goalkeeper Dean Henderson have re-opened talks with Newcastle, although negotiations have not reached an advanced stage.

Newcastle tried to sign Henderson in January but are unlikely to meet his £40million valuation, preferring a season-long loan. There is interest from others including Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has played three times this season after failing to displace David de Gea as United's No 1. Henderson is desperate for first-team football to press his claims ahead of the World Cup, and United are willing to let him go after signing Tom Heaton last summer.

The club will also listen to offers for right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, three years after the defender arrived from Palace in a £50m deal.

The 24-year-old has lost his place to Diogo Dalot under Rangnick and the decision indicates that Ten Hag has a similar view.

There will be more departures in the coming months with Paul Pogba heading the list of free agents. United's £89m record signing will leave Old Trafford for a second time and his lawyer Rafaela Pimenta has been in talks with Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
