Do you know why the hard workers of Stockport were called ‘Mad Hatters’? From mystery skeletons to torturous punishments, you won’t believe your eyes!

Launching just ahead of Halloween, Stockport’s brand new Totally Ghastly Secrets, the augmented reality (AR) trail, will take you on an adventure to discover seven spooky characters, each with a shocking tale, each coming to a ghastly, grisly end in the cold, dark corners of a distant past.

Can you guess where the ghost with a wooden leg hangs out? Discover the mystery of the bricked-up bones and oh my word, can you imagine target practice with real rats?

Join the Totally Stockport team on the terror-ific AR trail across Stockport town centre, seek out all seven ghastly characters and discover their hair-raising, darkest secrets.

Follow the simple instructions on the app and use the GPS-enabled map in the app to follow the trail. You can download a copy of the map on Totally Stockport’s website.

Visitors to the town centre can collect a map from the Heritage Centre in St Mary’s Church, from Staircase House in Market Place or from Totally Stockport’s office on Great Underbank.

The trail is designed to be a permanent fun activity in the town centre and will be available for anyone to enjoy at any time and an ideal activity for groups of school children and organisations to enjoy throughout the year.

The free app uses a WiFi/data connection to download map data, and GPS to help you find your location on the trail route.
