Discover a fantastic programme of events in Wigan to celebrate Queen's Platinum Jubilee
An invitation has been extended to the whole of the Wigan Borough to come together to make sure and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style.
Wigan Council is hosting a series of events across the extended bank holiday weekend - including a Jubilee Gala - with the activity focused on the borough’s parks.
But the festivities don’t end there. The council knows there’s also a whole range of community activities planned, which is why it's providing a package of support for those hoping to host a street party.
Whether it’s tips on how to rustle up the perfect party food and drink options, to a handy guide to making bunting in order to decorate in line with the Great British street party tradition, the council has got you covered.
Councillor David Molyneux, leader of Wigan Council, said: “The eyes of the world will be on the UK in early June as we all come together to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
“We have gone the extra mile here in Wigan Borough to ensure our communities can make it a week to remember for everyone.
“Our series of events and support has been tailored to ensure all of our residents feel part of the celebrations while linking to all of the activities on a regional and national level.
“We’re looking forward to having a great time and feeling the sense of civic pride for our communities.”
The council’s celebrations start with the ceremonial beacon lighting at Haigh Woodland Park on the evening of Thursday, June 2, between 6pm and 10pm, with a host of food and entertainment provided, hosted by the Girlguiding Lancashire South County organisation.
The following day the Mayor’s Jubilee Gala – featuring family-friendly activities and entertainment – will be hosted at Leigh’s
