Diogo Dalot sends warning to Manchester United teammates after Brighton defeat

Diogo Dalot has warned his Manchester United teammates that they must improve following their opening defeat to Brighton.

Erik ten Hag's reign didn't get off to the auspicious start he would have hoped for on Sunday as he watched his new side slip to a 2-1 defeat to the visiting Seagulls. Pascal Gross got both goals to give Brighton their well-earned win as United looked like a different side to the one that had made steady progress in pre-season.

An Alexis Mac Allister own goal did give a glimmer of hope but United were unable to create any more clear chances as Brighton expertly saw out the match. The fixtures don't get much easier, either, with a trip to Brentford up next before Liverpool travel to Manchester.

Dalot says the side must analyse what went wrong on Sunday and work hard to get better. "I just tried to jump at the keeper. We knew that he was good coming out of the goal, I try to jump as high as I could, I touched the ball, then I think it touched my shoulder or my back" he told MUTV when describing his involvement in United's goal. "Hopefully, it will go in but it was not enough.

"We need to look at the positives. We still have a few, second-half especially, with some good plays but we need to do this for 90 minutes not just 45 minutes and try to do that in the next game.

"Obviously it's the first game we still have a long season to play. It's a setback. We need to get together, I think there's an obligation for us in the next games, we're sure to analyse what we did and did not do well and try to improve the next game."
