Diogo Dalot explains how Manchester United dressing room star overcame 'mental' challenge

Diogo Dalot believes Andre Onana made a 'mental change' to improve his Manchester United form.

Onana struggled in his first few months in Manchester after signing from Inter Milan, but he made improvements last winter and ended his first campaign at United with a flourish.

The 28-year-old received praise for a world-class save in the goalless draw against Crystal Palace last month and has cut out the mistakes that plagued his mixed start at the club.

The consensus on Onana is he's become a more reliable goalkeeper. He has previously spoken openly about the mental challenges he faced when he made the switch to Old Trafford and Dalot believes overcoming those obstacles is the reason he's been able to improve.

“I think it’s been more of a change mentally than footballistic attribute." Dalot said about Onana. "I think he’s the same player. The only thing that he changed is that he is, I think, more balanced mentally.

"Also being really prepared for the highs and lows. At this club, because of the demands and the expectations we have here, it can be really easy for you to fall mentally and to feel really bad.

"Even when things are going well for you, for you to feel over-hyped. So I think he found this balance of being really calm and really confident, and I think it shows on the pitch that he is really good.”

Dalot was interviewed by club media and also praised Noussair Mazraoui, who hasn't needed a period to adapt to life at the club after signing from Bayern Munich in the summer window.
