.Team begins training in Portugal ahead Saudi friendly

Former Nigerian international, Dimeji Lawal, has cautioned Super Eagles’ coaches against the constant changes in the national team squad, saying by now the squad should has been settled ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which begins next month.

Coach Jose Peseiro and his team are currently in Portugal preparing for international friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

According to Lawal, inviting different players for international engagements at now will not give the Eagles coach enough time to blend the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

“I don’t understand why the Eagles coach should be inviting different players for national team games. The players in the game against Sao Tome are different from those invited for the games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

“By now, we should have a standing team playing the two friendlies. How can the coach keep changing his team a few weeks to the World Cup qualifiers? It is better for the coach to play his core players in friendly games and make few adjustments where necessary.

“Everybody knows the core players in English team, German team and other big teams of the world. Constantly changing players is not healthy for the Eagles,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will begin preparations in Portugal for the international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

Nigeria will play against Saudi Arabia on Friday and take on Mozambique next week.
