Diarmuid Barron travels with Ireland as Dan Sheehan rehabs at home

Munster hooker Diarmuid Barron has been called in as cover for Ireland's final World Cup warm-up match against Samoa in Bayonne on Saturday.

Dan Sheehan injured his foot in the first half of Ireland's win over England on Saturday, with Andy Farrell saying post-game that he had lost power in his foot and it was a case of "fingers crossed".

Fellow Leinster hooker Ronán Kelleher is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and alongside Sheehan, prop Dave Kilcoyne (hamstring) and number 8 Jack Conan (foot) have all remained in Dublin to continue their rehabilitation programmes, the IRFU said in a medical update.

Further details of Sheehan's foot injury are expected later in the week. Ulster hookers Rob Herring and Tom Stewart are also in the travelling party.

"The Ireland squad arrived in Biarritz on Sunday and trained in the Stade Jean Dauger Bayonne on Monday morning," said the union.

"Munster hooker Diarmuid Barron travelled with the travelling party while Jack Conan, David Kilcoyne and Dan Sheehan continued their rehabilitation programmes in Dublin."
