Devil Wears Prada sequel 'confirmed' - with Meryl Streep 'set to return'

A sequel to the hit film The Devil Wears Prada is reportedly in the pipeline, with Meryl Streep expected to reprise her memorable role as formidable magazine editor Miranda Priestly.

Puck News has reported that plans for a follow-up to the 2006 original are underway, although it remains unclear whether Anne Hathaway will return as Andy Sachs in the Disney production. Emily Blunt, however, is confirmed to be reprising her role as Emily Charlton, Priestly's beleaguered assistant.

Variety reports that Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada, is in discussions about returning to write the sequel. Early indications suggest the film will focus on Priestly's rivalry with her former colleague Charlton, who has since become a high-powered executive.

The news of a sequel comes just months after Hathaway reassured fans of The Devil Wears Prada that they 'don't need to worry about a sequel', despite author Lauren Weisberger writing Revenge Wears Prada. Speaking to E! News, she said: "I don't think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen", reports OK!.

Hathaway joked that the trio would 'continue to give out awards to other people', but dismissed the idea of a sequel. The actress confessed she 'would love' to see the trio reunite with director David Frankel, but she wants the original movie to stand alone.

She remarked: "The truth of the matter is - with any film - all we can do is make it. The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it's the love that everybody pours to it. Let's just keep the thing that we all agree with love."
