Dermot O'Leary forced to apologise minutes into ITV This Morning as he's left 'mortified'

Dermot O'Leary was left having to say 'sorry' just minutes into This Morning when he was left 'mortified' live on air. The presenter made a surprise early return to the ITV daytime show alongside Alison Hammond on Monday (May 1).

The programme's usual Friday hosts stepped in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the first of a number of Bank Holiday Monday shows set to take place this month. They started off another week of episodes by talking about gardening in a mock garden set up.

Alison kicked things off from inside a shed while Dermot stood surrounded by pots and other gardening items. But it was 49-year-old Dermot who almost caused chaos in the studio when he ended up knocking over a terracotta pot.

Hearing the crash, Alison, 48, said: "What have you broken now? Oh no the flower pot!" while Dermot apologised. He exclaimed: "I am absolutely mortified! I am so sorry..." Trying to defend himself the former X Factor host said: "I didn't know they were real! Nothing in this studio is real apart from this stuff."

He then crossed over to their gardening expert Daisy Payne who was on hand to confirm his theory as to what they should do with the broken pot as he asked: "Daisy, I've just crushed some terracotta. What do I do?"

Alison jumped in to say: "Put it in the bin." But she stopped laughing when Daisy agreed with Dermot, replying: "Put it in the bottom of your pots for good drainage."

Alison and Dermot's early appearance on the show come ahead of a special episode of This Morning on Friday which will see them ditch the London-based studio and head up to Greater Manchester. To celebrate the King's coronation, which takes place on
