Dermot Desmond's loaded Rangers sound bite confuses one punter as Celtic shareholder splits the room - Hotline

After a weekend of top six battles and drama it was Celtic's principal shareholder Dermot Desmond who was in the line of fire.

The Irishman's remarks about the Hoops boasting a continuous history in clear reference to Rangers haven't gone down well with some.

Bill Duncan, Ellon, said: "What point is Desmond trying to make, why now and who in particular is he trying to have a dig at?

"Someone should point out to him that Celtic aren't the only club that will have a continuous history and anyway, how many people really care?

Willie Mercer, Dumfries , said: "When it was all going pear-shaped last year and the Celtic support wanted some answers, Mr Desmond was nowhere to be seen or heard.

"On the cusp of winning the league he is suddenly Mr Celtic with plenty to say. Last season was the Holy Grail for every Celtic fan. If I was a Celtic fan I would be raging."

Derek Morris, Stirling, said: "Did Desmond mean that Celtic won’t change their name again, as they already did in 1994."

Steven Jackson emailed: "So Desmond says there will never be a new Celtic. Can he explain how when Fergus McCann took over their name changed from Celtic Football and Athletic Club to just Celtic Football Club. Whereas Rangers stayed as Rangers Football club."
