Dermot Desmond lays out Champions League targets for Celtic as supremo throws weight behind Brendan Rodgers

Celtic principal shareholder Dermot Desmond has revealed his targets for the Champions League campaign.

Brendan Rodgers' side have three points so far in the league phase after seeing off Slovan Bratislava on matchday one at Celtic Park - but they were abruptly brought down to earth by Borussia Dortmund last week. Last season's Champions League finalists steamrollered the Scottish Premiership leaders in a 7-1 demolition - but Parkhead chief Desmond remains optimistic about the remainder of the campaign.

In a rare interview while playing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in St Andrews, Desmond was quizzed on what he would like to see from Celtic from the remainder of their European campaign. He told BBC Scotland: "I would like to see some good results, home results and maybe nick a point or two away. I think we have done exceptionally well so far. It's interesting to play eight different teams, four at home and four away with all different rankings. I think it makes it exciting for the club, the supporters and people generally."

Desmond was speaking after Celtic recovered from their midweek hammering with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Ross County. Asked about the result in the Highlands, the supremo said: "I am very pleased. I think we have played good football. We had a good start and could have played bad football, but we have played very good and exciting football. Unfortunately we weren't at our best on Tuesday. But, I like what we are doing, what Brendan is doing and I think we have a good squad."
