Derek McInnes reveals Rangers transfer giveaway he got during Gio van Bronckhorst exchange

Former Rangers star Derek McInnes believes current boss Gio van Bronckhorst is content with his squad despite criticism over a lack of late action.

The Ibrox boss signed Ridvan Yilmaz, Malik Tillman, John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo, Ben Davies and Antonio Colak but did not dip into the market after securing a first appearance in the Champions League group stage for 12 years. That decision was met with a mixed response from supporters and it's in sharp focus in the wake of Rangers' 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Celtic on Saturday. But McInnes believes it's time to show faith in the Dutchman's nous to secure telling results on the Continent once again. Rangers travel to Amsterdam to take on Ajax on Wednesday night and the Europa League finalists are aiming to lean on the experience gained amid their rousing run to Sevile.

But the Kilmarnock boss sensed his counterpart was content with the business concluded by van Bronckhorst when the pair met at Ibrox last month. Speaking in the Mail on Sunday , McInnes said: "Europa League finalists last year, the current Rangers team has shown itself to be more capable of dealing with the European stage than we ever were. That's why Rangers fans shouldn't be too concerned that Giovanni van Bronckhorst did not go out and spend big on transfer deadline day.

"I've no doubt there was work going on behind the scenes to try and secure a last-minute addition. Qualification for the Champions League has helped the financial situation but sometimes you can end up signing players for the sake of it. Rangers got a lot of business done early this summer.
