Derek McInnes rages at ref Chris Graham as Kilmarnock boss makes 'issues before' claim after 'faffy' VAR display
Derek McInnes admitted his side had a ‘bad day at the office’ after a home horror show.
Killie were demolished by St Johnstone at Rugby Park and for a side who were so solid defensively last season, they have alarmingly shipped seven league goals in just two games this term. Their task was made Herculean after defender Joe Wright was sent off for two bookings after just 16 minutes and was also at fault for the opener. In fact, all of Killie’s backline looked off it and boss McInnes accepted it wasn’t their finest of days.
He said: “We’ve not had too many bad days at office, but it clearly was a bad day. And we were the architects of our own downfall. We’ve had a lot of praise and applause us for our robustness and our defensive structure and been able to get plenty of clean sheets. But I thought we looked unnecessarily anxious with their front two today right from the get go.
“And when Joe gets sent off, it’s the last thing we needed on a hot day like today with ten men, with the schedule and all the rest of it. The second goal had nothing to do with being down to ten men, that’s just poor defending. And my players have had a lot of credit for their defending.
“But we’re out the Europa League because we lose a poor goal. There wasn’t a lot between the two teams but we get ourselves emptied out of that. We put ourselves under pressure against Tromso. That was a good performance, nobody will tell me anything else but it was skewed by two shocking goals. It was a gutsy performance after the break and we had the better chances.”
However, the Rugby Park gaffer wasn’t impressed with ref Chris Graham’s performance, especially after he denied Killie a penalty which could have cut the deficit to one goal when Danny Armstrong was
