Denis Law dies aged 84 - Tributes paid to Manchester United legend

The world of football is mourning the passing of Manchester United legend Denis Law after it was confirmed on Friday evening that the former Scottish international has passed away - aged 84.

Law, who joined Manchester City from Huddersfield Town in 1960 for an estimated then-British record transfer fee of £55,000, moved to Italian club Torino a year later before joining United in 1962 for another British record fee of £115,000.

He would go on to spend 11 years with the Red Devils, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances, earning himself the nickname 'The King' and 'The Lawman' by United fans and was known as Denis the Menace by opposing supporters.

Law is the only Scottish footballer ever to have won the Ballon d'Or, a feat he achieved in 1964.

This is a breaking story and the Manchester Evening News will bring you a round-up of all the key tributes from around the world here this evening in our dedicated LIVE blog.

And what a career it was. MEN Sport have taken a look at some of the best pictures of Law's career, that included time at Huddersfield Town, Manchester City, Torino and United.
