Deloitte reveal Nottingham Forest would truly hit the jackpot by winning play-off final

There's more at stake than a place at the top table when Nottingham Forest take on Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final on Sunday.

The 'richest game in football' gives the two clubs a golden opportunity to taste the riches on offer in the Premier League next season. While glory will be to the forefront for both sets of fans and players this weekend, the prize money at the end of the rainbow will very much be on the minds of the clubs' respective hierarchies.

And given the eye-watering amounts involved, it's understandable why. But how much exactly would a place in the top flight be worth to the Reds?

According to analysis carried out by Deloitte, Forest would stand to earn at least over the next three seasons. And that could rise to over the next five years if they managed to stay up next season.

Deloitte say that this additional income is comprised of estimated increases to the club's own commercial and matchday revenues and secured central Premier League revenues. One season in the Premier League guarantees broadcast revenues of around , while potential parachute payments in the following two campaigns would bring in around .

Forest have not been in the Premier League since 1999, showing that returning to the top flight is far from easy. But with half of play-off winners in the past decade going straight back down, staying there - and reaping the financial benefits that come with it - can be just as difficult.
