‘Delighted’ – Chris Wilder makes Middlesbrough transfer admission

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has told Teesside Live that he is pleased with the business that the club got done during the January transfer window.

The North East outfit quickly went about strengthening their existing squad following the appointment of Wilder as Neil Warnock’s successor and brought in the likes of Aaron Connolly, Folarin Balogun and Riley McGree from Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Charlotte FC.

Meanwhile the likes of Lewis Wing, Marcus Browne, Hayden Coulson, Uche Ikpeazu and Dejan Stojanovic all went the other way as they moved on to pastures new.

Reflecting on his side’s winter business recently, Wilder was quick to state the following on how he felt it went:

“I was delighted to get both of them (Balogun and Connolly) and obviously Riley to the football club. It’s early days and there’s more to come.”

The former Sheffield United boss is sure to be eyeing further additions to his squad this coming summer and will know that one window is not enough to get the club where he wants it to be.

He has settled into the role well so far and will have been encouraged by what he has seen from the players.

The Verdict

The additions that Boro have made in the January window have been eye catching to say the least and it will be interesting to see how they fair in the long run at the Riverside Stadium.

Wilder is a manager who demands a lot from his players and he will no doubt have been pleased with the levels of their performances thus far.

They have moved closer to the play-off places in the Sky Bet Championship and most recently beat Manchester United in the FA Cup.

It shows that something good is building in the North East and many would argue that this is only the beginning.
