"Definitely going to be a worry for Maguire": Journalist drops MUFC verdict on £45m-rated target

Manchester United star Harry Maguire will be worried about his place in Erik ten Hag’s team if Villareal’s Pau Torres were to join this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

According to Spanish publication MARCA, Ten Hag wants Torres at Old Trafford at all costs, and sees him as the perfect fit for his philosophy of playing out from the back.

One man of course who had a below-par season in the Premier League last term, was Maguire, whose ailing form eventually saw him being taken out of the firing line by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Given that the World Cup is set to take place at the end of this calendar year, Maguire will no doubt be hoping to cement his place at club level to ensure he is at the forefront of England manager Gareth Southgate’s plans for this winter, but O’Rourke has indicated he faces a difficult prospect.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke admitted that Torres’ arrival at Old Trafford this summer would leave Maguire feeling worried about his place at United.

He said: “I think any player that sees somebody coming in that plays in the same position as them is going to be worried about their possible place in the team. Ten Hag is going to give everybody a clean slate this summer to have a look, and that will be a chance for Harry Maguire to impress.

“It’s never nice for a player if you see your club being linked with a player who plays in the same position as you, so it’s definitely going to be a worry for Maguire if Manchester United are pursuing centre-back targets.”
