Declan Rice gives verdict on Man City defeat to Arsenal as Aaron Ramsdale sends Blues warning

Aaron Ramsdale has warned Manchester City that Arsenal have removed their "mental block" after beating them on penalties in the Community Shield.

Cole Palmer's screamer looked to have secured the trophy for City, only for Leandro Trossard to equalise 11 minutes into time added on. The Gunners then won 4-1 on penalties.

Ramsdale admitted that the win doesn't indicate how the Premier League title race will go but did insist that it will give Arsenal a mental boost in games against City moving forward.

"They are a bit behind us with their pre-season," Ramsdale told ITV Sport.

"To us, it's a statement to us that we can go and beat them. It's a marker to know we can go and beat Man City in a big game when it matters.

"I am not sure what it'll be like going through the season but we now have that mental block gone. We are ready now to push on all season long.

"We'd worked hard on it (the shootout). We've been working hard on it for probably two years now. We haven't had the luck that we've needed in previous seasons."

Declan Rice admitted Arsenal were fortunate to score so late but was pleased with how patient his new club were. He was delighted to win a trophy on his competitive debut for the club.

"I am buzzing, that's what I visioned on joining the club," Rice said. "I thought it was a very tough game, every time you play against City you have to dig in.

"We created some good chances and we had a bit of luck in the end. You have to be patient against them, it's like a lot of mini-games, they move and rotate so much.

"It can be frustrating but you have to stick to what the manager wants. It was my first for the club."
