Debate heats up as Brits try to pinpoint the North and South divide in the UK

Brits are once again engrossed in the classic debate of where exactly the North ends and the Midlands begin, seeming to edge towards a consensus more than ever before.

A conversation was sparked on Reddit by user OceansOfLight, who queried those residing in locations spanning from Stoke-on-Trent to Skegness about whether they saw themselves as Northerners or Southerners. Surprisingly, people from regions below Manchester and Rotherham overwhelmingly identified as neither.

The dialogue on Reddit led to a general agreement that a vast stretch of the country represents the true beginning of the Midlands, hence marking the conclusion of the North. The thread starter posed the question: "If you live in the area marked in black do you see yourself as Northern?"

Replies varied with one participant saying: "Grew up basically right in the middle of this area and we considered it the Midlands/East Midlands." Another chimed in: "Was gonna say Shrewsbury just clips into there which is 100% Westmids, I'm Telford and we consider ourselves VERY West Mids, not even like I'm the edge. I've always thought sort of Chester up was north, anything below is more Midlands/whatever the hell you wanna call yourself really."

Some users simply responded with: "This is the Midlands." Another suggested that cities in the Midlands often tease each other based on their proximity to the north or south. One user humorously commented: "I live in Norwich (definitely the south) and have a friend from Leicester (definitely the Midlands) who I poke fun at for being 'Northern' even though our cities are literally the same latitude.
