UK heatwave latest as Met Office issues new forecast

We could be in for one more taste of summer as forecasters predict parts of the UK could see temperatures close to 30C in the coming days.

As we enter September, it's often time to think about dusting off the winter coat. But it may not be time to put the shorts away just yet, as the country could see some late heat from Spain this coming weekend.

Weather maps show plenty of red across the UK on Saturday (September 7), with the south and east expected to see the warmest and most humid conditions.

In their long-outlook forecast, the Met Office say the north of England is likely to see some rain and showers over the weekend, while the south will be more prone to humidity.

"Towards the end of the week, higher pressure is likely to be focussed over northern parts of the UK, with low pressure over the south or the nearby continent," they said.

"The driest conditions are most likely over Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a greater chance of rain or showers, perhaps torrential and thundery, in England and Wales. These showery conditions are expected to become more widespread into the weekend, with even some northern areas possibly seeing rain or showers at times.

"It will also become more humid, especially in the south and east, with potential for some very warm conditions. Little overall change is anticipated into the following week, with central and southern areas most prone to rain/showers at times, while it tends to be somewhat drier in the far north."

Temperatures could reach highs of 28C in the south, and in the north are currently forecast to settle at around 21C.
