Death in Paradise fans divided as former detective reprises role in spin-off with female lead

Fans Down Under have been eager to share their thoughts on the brand new Death in Paradise spin-off, Return to Paradise, following its debut in Australia on Sunday. Whilst it's still up in the air about when the drama will hit screens on the BBC, lucky viewers who've managed to get an early glance are already chatting away on the dedicated Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise fan Facebook page.

Ardal O'Hanlon's much-anticipated guest appearance as Detective Jack Mooney from the beloved series has stirred quite some excitement among followers. To add to the hype, there's talk about Anna Samson taking centre stage as the show introduces its first female lead, Detective Mackenzie Clarke.

Contributing to the conversation, one fan hinted: "All I'll say is there is a special cameo from a former DIP detective," while another jumped in with: "Just watched it too. I can see how it's based on the other two series to some extent. Might take some time to warm to the female lead, but we'll see how it develops across the series."

Others recalled previous experiences when encountering new faces: "Some of the male leads on Death in Paradise did not do much for me when they first started, either."

Meanwhile, another viewer was more than pleased, sharing: "Just watched, DI Mooney involvement. A lightweight Death in Paradise but so very enjoyable," as reported by the Express.

"The Mooney vague link lost me a bit, my money was on Humph," another comment read, signalling someone's fondness for a different character.

"Loved it and its characteristics," was a straightforward yet positive remark from another viewer.

However, not all viewers were impressed, as one fan pointed out: "Not as good as Death in Paradise, a bit disappointed.
