Two men stabbed in brawl before police cordon off street

Two men were stabbed in a brawl in Ashton-under-Lyne before police cordoned off the street. Emergency services were called to reports of a fight on Market Avenue at around 11pm on Friday (September 6).

The area was cordoned off, outside the Admiral casino, as the two men were rushed to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, police said.

A third man involved in the altercation suffered minor injuries. Pictures from the scene showed a large cordon in place, a police car blocking the road and officers at the scene late into the evening.

Three men aged 40, 32 and 26 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and violent disorder. Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Abdul Kahar of GMP’s Tameside district, said: “These sort of incidents justifiably cause concern in the community, but I want to reassure people that we believe it is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.

“While we have three people under arrest, we are still working out the exact sequence of Friday night’s events. I am asking anyone with any information to please come forward.

“This includes anyone who may have witnessed the fight, or has any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area at around that time.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact us via 101 or the Live Chat function at gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
