Dean Cornelius in Motherwell new contract talks in bid to keep growing EFL suitors list at bay

Motherwell have opened contract talks in a bid to fend off growing English interest in Dean Cornelius.

The midfielder is out of contract at Fir Park at the end of the season and is on the radar of the likes of Charlton, Bolton and Barnsley. A number of clubs were also at Easter Road to watch the 21-year-old in the impressive win over Hibs. Cornelius has been a regular in the Motherwell first-team this season and has really kicked on again under Stuart Kettlewell.

The 21-year-old’s impressive form and his contract situation has alerted a number of English clubs, who know they could take him south for limited compensation. Kettlewell will be hoping he can convince Cornelius to continue his development under him at Fir Park.

He has been at the club for five years since making the switch from the youth ranks at His. Motherwell also have Max Johnston out of contract in the summer but there is massive interest in him from the likes of Burnley, Augsburg, Monaco and Udinese.

It looks likely the Scotland under-21 cap will be moving on come the summer, with Motherwell due compensation.
