Deadline set, next manager fears, transfer stance - Ruben Amorim Man Utd sack verdict delivered
Ruben Amorim has suggested that he could be sacked at Manchester United next season if their dismal Premier League form continues.
Sunday's 2-0 loss at home to West Ham was their 17th defeat of an atrocious top-flight campaign under the former Sporting boss and his predecessor Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed in October. United have suffered their most defeats in a league campaign since the 1973/74 season when they were relegated.
The one saving grace for Amorim has been the Europa League with his team reaching the final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on May 21 (8pm kick-off). Victory in Europe's second-tier competition will secure an unlikely place in next season's Champions League.
But Amorim has not shied away from the wider problems at M16. In a passionate interview, post-match on Sunday, the 40-year-old did not hold back.
When pressed on whether his squad needs an overhaul, he replied: "I don’t know and I don’t want to talk about players. I’m talking about myself. I’m talking about the culture in the club and the culture in the team.
"I have that feeling and we need to change that. We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave. We will not have a next season like this if we start like this. If the feeling is still here we should give space to different persons."
So what should people make of Amorim's comments on his future and the problems at Old Trafford? Below, writers at The Manchester Evening News have had their say...
Amorim has rarely held back in his honest assessments of United. A notable standout was suggesting in January that his side could be the worst Manchester United team in history.
His fairly recent arrival at the club may have afforded him some leeway to make these comments. The Reds
