Deadline Day wrap: Mikey Johnston seals West Brom loan

Republic of Ireland winger Mikey Johnston revealed he was keen on a move to West Brom from the start of the transfer window after sealing a loan transfer to the Sky Bet Championship side.

The 24-year-old has moved until the end of the season 24 hours after fellow Celtic winger Marco Tilio rejoined Melbourne City on loan.

The Ireland international had to be patient to get his chance after returning from a season-long loan with Vitoria Guimaraes in the summer and he failed to make his mark in a run of four consecutive starts in December.

He did have a bigger impact off the bench and struck twice against Dundee on Boxing Day but a loan move was seen as the best option by Rodgers and the player himself.

"I want to hit the ground running and make an impact right away," Johnston told the West Brom website. "I think the deal has been rumbling on since the start of the window, so I'm just happy to get it over the line.

"I was really keen as soon as I spoke to him. He’s impressive. You know exactly what he needs from you and it’s exactly the type of manager I like to work under."

Johnston’s contract with Celtic runs until the summer of 2026.

Fellow Irish international Adam Idah is poised to join Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Norwich attacker will hope a switch to Celtic Park will kickstart his career, having seen his playing time with the Canaries reduced to cameos from the bench of late.

The 22-year-old arrived in Glasgow on Wednesday to complete a move to the Hoops until the end of the campaign.

With seven goals from 34 games this season across all competitions,
