David Watson makes Europa League goal confession after wild Kilmarnock celebration from Kyle Vassell

David Watson let skipper Kyle Vassell take the acclaim for Kilmarnock’s priceless Euro leveller. And, although disappointed his team didn't win, boss Derek McInnes believes the key strike offers even-more belief the job can be completed in Belgium.

Watson got the final touch on a Vassell header to square the tie. The skipper had bolted off to celebrate unaware it had come off his colleague. Watson said: “Aye it was definitely mine. I didn’t want to take his moment off him! I just got the ball and went back to the halfway line. I wasn’t sure if it was my goal completely, but I knew I’d touched it.

“It felt like we were going to score again at the end. Fraser Murray is so unlucky, their keeper makes a great save and his free kick is just over the bar. It gives us confidence going into the game over there knowing we can cause problems and create chances. “There’s a big belief in the group that we can go and do it.

“It’s the games you dream of playing in as a kid, European matches. They don’t come around very often for Kilmarnock. It gives us great motivation to feel the belief from the fans and everybody involved, especially going over there when the fans have bought so many tickets. They’ve sold it out. We’ve got confidence we can go do it.”

Vassell added: "It's a goal, it's got us a draw and I'm delighted for him. The way we fought to the end was just us. We keep believing and we'll keep that fight."
