David Turnbull desperate to be Celtic difference maker vs Atletico as he's done himself 'no harm' in starting pitch

David Turnbull is desperate for a Champions League crack at Atletico Madrid.

The Celtic star and his his team-mates face the La Liga giants needing a positive result to keep alive slim hopes of progressing from Group E. Turnbull has yet to feature in any of the three group games after five outings last term but would love an opportunity in the Spanish capital. He has grabbed the initiative in the absence of injured Reo Hatate and hit goals in each of Celtic’s wins over St Mirren and Ross County in the past week.

He’s now desperate for a chance against Diego Simeone’s men and said: “Yes, 100 per cent. I want to be in there. I’ve tried to do myself no harm. It’s the manager’s decision on Tuesday so it’s up to him but if I’m called upon I’ll give it my best shot.

“It’s a huge game. It’s a great game to go into, away in Madrid. We are looking forward to it. We really need to get the result. Hopefully we can do that.”

Celtic produced an excellent display 12 days ago when they pushed Simeone’s side all the way in Glasgow’s east end.

Brendan Rodgers’ team earned a 2-2 draw at home to gain their first point of the section but face an even stiffer test in the Civitas Metropolitano.

Turnbull says confidence can be taken from the Parkhead performance as he said: “Yes, especially in the first half we were really good. They came out a bit in the second half but they’re a top side. We’ve done well to nullify what they’ve got and show what we can do as well.

“It’s good to see the progression from the start of last season. We can compete with these sides. We’ll go into it with confidence and try to play our own game.”
