David Moyes hoping 'difficult week' for Wolves will give West Ham edge

David Moyes is hoping Wolves' midweek exploits will hand an West Ham United an advantage when the sides meet this weekend.

The teams go head-to-head on Sunday at the London Stadium (2pm), with the Hammers having had a full week of training and rest.

Wolves, meanwhile, had a gruelling clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, where they were cruelly beaten 2-1 courtesy of two late goals from the Gunners.

West Ham will be looking to extend the gap between themselves and Wolves. They are currently one place and two points ahead of Bruno Lage's men in sixth place, though they have played a game more.

Ahead of the weekend's fixture, Moyes was quizzed about whether Wolves' midweek game could affect their tiredness levels.

"I certainly am [hoping], yes," he admitted. "But in football you never know, the regular games or the rest you never know what you need.

"We've had very few games where we had an advantage over the opposition with time. Wolves have had a difficult week but that's the way it's going with the games called off during Covid.

"We have a really difficult week with three games in six days, with Sunday, then going to Southampton in the FA Cup in midweek, then Liverpool next Saturday. So for us to have three games in six days starts on Sunday and that is difficult for us."

The London side are unbeaten in their past three league games, with the most recent being a draw against Newcastle.

But the 58-year-old is aware the Wanderers' recent form will make them tough opponents.

"I have been really impressed by Wolves," he added. "If you take out the first few games they have been in really good consistent form with a lot of confidence and they are developing well."
