David Moyes has given his verdict on West Ham summer signing Nayef Aguerd after Hammers debut

David Moyes admits he has been impressed by summer signing Nayef Aguerd since his arrival at West Ham United.

The 26-year-old centre-back signed a five-year contract at the London Stadium last month after arriving from Ligue 1 side Rennes in a deal worth around £30million, with the Moroccan international making his first appearance in a Hammers shirt as Moyes' men took on Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium yesterday (Saturday).

And the West Ham boss was full of praise for the Moroccan international, who started the game and played the first 63 minutes on a hot afternoon in Berkshire, before Moyes made a raft of changes to bring on a mixture of young players and experienced professionals.

"I have been really impressed by Nayef Aguerd," he said, speaking after the game. "There will be elements of his game that will need to take time and probably the biggest thing will be just adapting to the Premier League as far as I'm concerned. But he's a very good player, a good footballer, we know that, and hopefully we get to see that from him in the coming months and years."

The game against Paul Ince's Royals offered Moyes the chance to get some minutes into his returning international players, with the likes of Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Vladimir Coufal among those to feature for the first time in pre-season for the Hammers.

And Moyes was pleased with what he saw from his side, with the Hammers taking the lead through Croatian forward Nikola Vlasic, before being pegged back by their Championship opponents as Yakou Meite struck to earn the Royals a draw.
