David Gray braced for more Hibs boos but breathed sigh of relief when Kukharevych sparked cheers instead
David Gray was braced for the jeers – but was relieved it ended up with cheers at Easter Road as Hibs finally got up and running.
Myko Kukharevych pounced on the stroke of half-time to calm the rising tension among the home support after a frustrating 45 minutes against St Johnstone. And confidence soared in the second period as Junior Hoilett impressed from the bench and fellow sub Martin Boyle roared back to his best to notch a slick second and secure Hibs first league win of the season.
Gray said: “It was a huge goal for the players and for just the stadium in general. I think we were a wee bit edgy, a wee bit lethargic in certain situations. When the goal went in, we came out second half, really settled us down and the boys showed a lot more quality and composure on the ball and just looked a bit freer and a bit looser, which was great to see.
“I think the subs coming on as well really helped us at the right time and it was a real collective performance. I'm delighted with the manner in which we've done it.”
Hoilett brought a swagger to the second half while Boyle added the cutting edge Hibs needed. Gray said: “You see the composure Junior shows on the ball and his decision making. But he also affects people around about him by showing that calmness on the ball. I think the more we can get players like that on the pitch, we'll really benefit from it.”
