David Goodwillie's Clyde return prompts Ladies team to quit club

Clyde Ladies have told the Broadwood club they no longer wish to represent the Bully Wee following the return of 'rapist' David Goodwillie to the club.

Goodwillie, who was ruled a rapist in a 2017 civil court case, is back at the Cumbernauld-based outfit after his move to Raith Rovers last month sparked uproar among the Kirkclady club.

At the time, it prompted First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to suggest Rovers reverse their decision amid Raith Ladies' captain Tyle Rattray quitting the team in portest.

The Raith board eventuallu admitted they'd "got it wrong" with the signing and Goodwillie has now returned to Clyde on loan until the end of the season.

But Clyde Ladies have followed a smilar stance taken by their Raith counterparts and are refusing to play under the Bully Wee banner, with their general manager also quitting in protest.

A statement on the Clyde Ladies Facebook page reads: "We can confirm the general manager/secretary of Clyde Ladies has resigned on hearing the news of the return of David Goodwillie to the club.

"All of the players in the ladies team have discussed the situation with the general manager/secretary and they are ALL in agreement that we no longer wish to play for Clyde FC.

"This will start with immediate effect.

"As a group of female footballers all we wish to do is play the sport that we love but due to the current circumstances we are unable to do this.

"At this time we wish to ensure the well-being and privacy of our players therefore we would ask that players are not approached personally for comment regarding this matter."
