David Beckham sends supportive message to son Romeo Beckham after Inter Miami debut

David Beckham sent an encouraging message to his son, Romeo, after the youngster made his debut for Inter Miami on Wednesday night.

Romeo, 19, was handed his first appearance for the club co-owned by his father under the watchful eye of manager Phil Neville, who played alongside Beckham senior for Manchester United and England.

Wearing the number 37 shirt, he came off the bench to play alongside Harvey Neville, Phil's son, and helped Inter Miami defeat Peruvian side Universitarios in a pre-season friendly in front of nearly 7,000 fans.

Harvey, 19, scored the third goal in the 4-0 victory from full-back while Romeo, following in his dad's footsteps, was deployed on the wing.

Both teenagers spent last season playing for Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami's reserve team, and neither of them are expected to be in Phil Neville's squad for the upcoming Major League Soccer campaign.

Nonetheless, it was a night to remember for Romeo and he took to Instagram to write: "First match in front of our fans. Insane."

His proud dad responded to his post by commenting: "Well done mate."

Adding to the occasion, Romeo took to the pitch alongside Gonzalo Higuain, who previously played for the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea as well as the Argentina national team.

But former Arsenal and England defender Kieran Gibbs, who joined Inter Miami last March, was unable to feature due to a back injury.

This opened up a spot at full-back for Neville junior, who capitalised on his opportunity with a goal early in the second half.

Amusingly, dad Phil admitted he missed the strike as he was remonstrating with the fourth official.
