David Beckham risks Manchester United fan backlash with Jurgen Klopp admission

Manchester United legend David Beckham has risked the ire of his former fans by proclaiming his love for outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German said goodbye to the Anfield club on the final day of the 2023/24 season, bowing out with a 2-0 win over Wolves after nearly nine years in charge.

Klopp leaves Liverpool having won several trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League and a number of domestic cups.

And Beckham, despite being a lifelong United fan and a former Old Trafford favourite as a player, could not hide his admiration for Klopp.

Speaking on the Smartless podcast, Beckham stated: "Even as a Man United fan, I love Jurgen. I love his character, his personality, and what he brings to the sport.

"I am going to get killed by some of my Man United friends. I am sad to see him leave. What he has done for the club and the sport has been incredible."

Beckham joked that the MLS club he owns in America, Inter Miami, could not afford Klopp's wages if they wanted to appoint him. He said: "We've not got much money left."

Klopp is now expected to spend a year away from football, after revealing he was feeling tired and fatigued in his final season in charge of Liverpool. In a recent interview, he joked: “I know when you say something like [you're leaving] and now the football is not that great the last few weeks maybe, then people immediately tell you: ‘he looks tired’ – I’m just old, sorry!”
