David Beckham names secret to Class of '92 success and when he felt Manchester United didn't want him

Manchester United legend David Beckham believes the amount of senior professionals in the dressing room helped bring success for the Class of '92 at Old Trafford.

Alongside the likes of Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt, the Class of '92 are synonymous with United thanks to their performances. Sir Alex Ferguson gave the youngsters their first chance in the senior team after their triumphs for the Academy.

While questions were raised at the time, Beckham and co led the Reds to unparalleled success which included the famous '99 Treble winning season. A lot of praise for this triumph is placed on the young players but speaking to Classic Football Shirts, the 48-year-old insisted it was the already-established players who helped them become the icons they are today.

He explained: "Obviously we were so successful (as a youth team) but when we all stepped up to go into the first team, the reason we were so successful was because we had; Mark Hughes, Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister... All of these great players, Roy Keane, to help us evolve.

"We were successful as a youth team but once we stepped up we needed the other players with experience to teach us." For Beckham though, things did not feel like they were always smooth sailing.

Reflecting on his time as a youngster, the former England captain revealed how in 1995 he believed his dream was coming to an end. He added: "To be honest I have great memories [being on loan at Preston North End].
