Dave Cormack rues Aberdeen FC transfer miss on Tonio Teklic as chairman reveals how many more signings Dons want

Dave Cormack says Aberdeen are after more defenders this summer as they move on from a pursuit of Tonio Teklic.

The Croatian playmaker has opted for a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor over the Premiership outfit after a lengthy Dons pursuit. But that has not disheartened boss Barry Robson or the Pittodrie decision makers, who are gearing up for European group stage football. Taking to social media after Saturday's 3-2 friendly win at Charlton, Cormack set out the Aberdeen targets for the rest of this window.

He said: "It’s been great to have a couple of good pre-season games in England. Good competition and it lets more fans see the team. We are very, very close on two defenders, and targeting another two to three players, which, given Barry is looking for quality that can play in his system, will most likely take us well into the transfer window during August.

"Yes, we just missed out on Teklic, which was tough after four months of effort. It happens when we you looking for really good quality.

"Let’s remember that we convinced and invested in transfer fees and wages for Clarkson, Shinnie, Sokler etc. and that Dante’s (Polvara) loan spell puts him in real contention for the way that Barry wants to play. Your support and encouragement of Barry and the team is really appreciated.

"It’s going to be a very competitive league again this year. We will never ever take European qualification or last season’s third place for granted.

"As Barry says, we will take one game at a time, give it our absolute best, and see where we are after 38 games. That’s the way it should be. And we know we are all looking forward to the European campaign, which is the first time in about 15 seasons we’ve got to the group stages."
