Darwin Nunez transfer news: Man Utd ‘best positioned’ to beat rivals to 34-goal Benfica hotshot

Manchester United are reportedly one of the sides ‘best positioned’ to complete the signing of prolific Benfica forward Darwin Nunez this summer.

Nunez has been heavily linked with a move to United, along with the likes of Liverpool, PSG and Atletico Madrid, after an incredible campaign in the Portuguese top flight and Europe.

And reports last month claimed that incoming Old Trafford chief Erik ten Hag has already requested that his new club sign the 22-year-old.

Ten Hag watched at first hand as Nunez scored to knock his Ajax side out of the Champions League this term.

The exciting forward has actually plundered 34 goals in 41 games in all competitions this season.

That has seen a number of Europe’s elite clubs to express an interest in the player. However, Portuguese outlet Record claims that the Red Devils are one of the teams best placed to seal his transfer.

Benfica are hoping to recoup a fee in the region of £85million for the striker. They are, however, hoping a bidding war drives that price up for one of the top young players in Europe.

While primarily a No.9, Nunez is also versatile to play as wide man in a front three. That sort of flexibility, plus the goals that come with it, make him an extremely attractive option.
