Darwin Nunez hands Jurgen Klopp Liverpool injury boost amid Arsenal and Man City title battle

Darwin Nunez has withdrawn from Uruguay duty after picking up a hamstring issue in Liverpool's 4-3 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

However, the Liverpool ECHO is reporting that Nunez remains in contention to feature against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on March 31. The Reds striker, who only recently returned from a similar issue earlier this month at Nottingham Forest, played 120 minutes at Old Trafford as Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

After the game, Klopp confirmed Nunez was one of a number of casualties for an already injury-hit squad, telling the BBC: "Now, the boys go on international duty, they have to recover. We hope they come back healthy.

"We had some problems. Lucho (Luis Diaz) felt his groin, Darwin his hamstring, hopefully it is not. And Cody Gakpo has twisted his ankle, I think. I didn't see it back, so we have to see.

“I don't know when they play their first game, but probably in four or five days, it's a crazy schedule. Let's hope they can get through that and then the rest of the season starts."

Jurgen Klopp's side are currently without as many as eight first-team players in Alisson Becker, Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak. However, Ibrahima Konate has reported for France duty after missing the last three matches with a muscle injury of his own, while Luis Diaz trained with Colombia on Tuesday.
