Darren Moore offers update over Sheffield Wednesday ace’s future

Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has told Yorkshire Live that he is yet to have discussed a new contract with Sam Hutchinson at Hillsborough.

The versatile player has been in some of the best form of his career since switching from playing in midfield to central defence and has become a key component of this Sheffield Wednesday side since making his return to the club after a spell abroad.

His contract with the Owls is due to expire next summer, which means there is now an increased chance that he could look to move elsewhere if an offer of fresh terms isn’t forthcoming before the campaign is out in the Steel City.

Now Moore has offered an update on the situation as he stated the following recently:

“For the players that have got their contracts coming up, the window is closed now and we’ve not really spoken about anything.

“As a group we’re just focusing on the next games – they’re coming thick and fast – and when the time is right we’ll discuss it.”

Hutchinson has made a total of 15 appearances for Wednesday across all competitions this season and has started the last six matches in Sky Bet League One.

He was previously released by the club in 2020 before returning in early 2021.

The Verdict

The Owls will surely view tying Hutchinson to a new contract as something of a priority given his fine form since coming back to Hillsborough.

He has been given a new lease of life under Moore and is really starting to lead by example as Wednesday aim to achieve promotion at the first time of asking.

His versatility and leadership skills make him a vital part of the squad and it seems that he is only going from strength to strength in the role of centre back.

Surely a deal will be discussed before the season is out.
