Darren Moore offers injury update at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have had their struggles with player availability all season, but have still been able to build a credible promotion push under Darren Moore.

The Owls assembled a large squad for the level in the summer transfer window, and it has been crucial to them maintaining high performance levels in spite of a lengthy list on the treatment table.

Jordan Storey’s return date is not yet clear having withdrawn from the AFC Wimbledon match at the weekend due to personal reasons.

However, Moore had some positive news regarding Wednesday stalwart Liam Palmer when he spoke to YorkshireLive.

He said: “He (Liam Palmer) is the one that is next in line who potentially could be back involved and in and around it for next weekend.”

The Owls have a three point cushion inside the play-off places, the best position they have been in since very early on in the campaign.

With Harlee Dean, Chey Dunkley and Dominic Iorfa coming back into the fold in recent weeks, Palmer’s absence has not been felt as much as it would have been in the first half of the season.

Palmer is approaching 350 appearances for the Owls and offers Moore a lot of tactical flexibility, able to play as a full back or centre back in a variety of systems.

The Verdict

Palmer has been a very effective ball playing centre back this season, even bombing forward to contribute in the final third from the left or right of the back three.

Given his years of service, Palmer is also a player that the supporters gravitate towards and Moore will be hoping that he can return to play some part in their play-off campaign.

The way Wednesday have managed to bulldoze their way into the top six over the last few months will make them very unwanted opponents at the semi final stage.
