Darren Moore has succeeded at Sheffield Wednesday where Garry Monk and Tony Pulis failed

One Sheffield Wednesday fan on social media dubbed their 5-2 triumph over Burton Albion the 'Pancake Day massacre'.

In truth, the Owls made hard work of a third league win on the bounce. After establishing a two-goal cushion, Wednesday offered the visitors a route back into the contest with some shaky, slip-shod defending.

A year ago, the Owls probably would have caved in and lost.

Darren Moore has spoken a lot about trying to improve the mentality at the club since swapping Doncaster Rovers for Wednesday. His predecessors, Garry Monk and Tony Pulis, also highlighted the issue.

Monk said there needed to be a culture change and he tried to usher in a bright new era. He brought in his own players and backroom staff but was unable to stop the rot.

Pulis did not stick around long enough to try and arrest their sharp decline.

There have been bumps along the road during Moore's tenure but the former West Bromwich Albion chief has instilled a never-say-die attitude in the team. There is character, togetherness and spirit in this current group.

Past Wednesday sides would have folded after Burton's plucky fightback.

But belief, confidence and resilience is growing, with the Owls on their best league run in nearly a decade (and we all know what happened in 2012!). They did not panic after Oumar Niasse's equaliser.

It of course helps when you have got a player in Barry Bannan who is in the best form of his life. The Scot produced a midfield masterclass.

Bannan was at the heart of everything good about Wednesday's play and has now claimed five goals and four assists in his last nine matches. He was unplayable at times last night.
