Dara O’Shea speaks out on return and future West Brom captain claims

West Bromwich Albion defender Dara O’Shea has said he will give 100 percent whenever given a chance to prove his ability after returning from injury.

O’Shea suffered an ankle fracture back in September whilst on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, and didn’t return to action until February when he made a five minute cameo against Sheffield United.

Since then, O’Shea has spent most games on the bench, occasionally featuring, but far from a guaranteed starter.

In an interview with the Express & Star, O’Shea opened up on his injury and said he is ready to give his all whenever he is given a chance to play.

“I’m really proud to have come through it the way I did,” he explained, via Express & Star.

“I think I turned a negative into a positive, I worked on myself, found myself a bit. But physically and mentally too I really had to focus on what was going to get me back to where I am now.”

“I’m really grateful to the club and all the medical staff for the support they have shown me.”

“They put in some long hours with me too, it wasn’t just me. Really happy for me and them.”

“I was out for a long time and I need to get back to doing what I love. And whenever I get a chance I’ll give 100 per cent. “

Back in March, O’Shea was name-dropped as a future potential captain for the Baggies by boss Steve Bruce.

O’Shea offered his verdict on Bruce saying that, saying it was a nice quote but that he has to back things like that up with his performances.

“Me, as a player, I’m confident and I like to think that I am leader as well,” he said when asked about Bruce’s comments.

“A quote like that is nice but I’ve got to back it up.”

It’s great to see Dara O’Shea overcoming a horrible injury and returning to West Brom action in
