Danny Wilson reveals Celtic wanted him before Rangers return as he admits 'I don't know what I would have done'

Danny Wilson has revealed CELTIC were interested in him before his second Rangers stint - and admits he doesn't know what he would have done had talk firmed up.

The former Hearts defender - now plying his trade in the Scottish Championship with Queen's Park after his stint in the MLS - could well have joined a rare group of players to play for both clubs on the Glasgow divide after admitting chats with agents when he was leaving Tynecastle. He ended up returning to Ibrox after previously leaving the club for English giants Liverpool.

He told the Scottish Sun: "There were conversations with agents. But the times they came at weren’t ideal. It wasn’t something I was interested in then. When I was leaving Hearts to go back to Rangers, I think there was Celtic interest. Would I have been prepared? You don’t know until you’re put in that position."

Looking back on his time at Liverpool, he said: "It was the wrong time in my career. It’s hard to turn down a club like that. I wasn’t ready for such a big move. I wasn’t mature enough, physically or mentally, to take the opportunity. I was at Rangers from eight to 18. I missed the club. I don’t regret joining Liverpool. But maybe it would have worked out better a bit later in my career."

On playing at Anfield, he added: "It’s one of the best stadiums in the UK and recognised worldwide. I’ve not been back since they redeveloped it. It has the famous ‘This is Anfield’ sign you touched as you made your way to the pitch and The Kop. I only played a couple of games there but there’s no question you got a special feeling."
