Danny Cowley considering summer transfer options as Portsmouth boss heads to Northampton match

Danny Cowley has potentially been keeping an eye out for some possible summer signings, with The News reporting that he was at Northampton at the weekend to run the rule over their game against Hartlepool.

Pompey have been in and around the play-off spots in League One this season and whilst they have been in the higher echelons of the division, they still haven’t been able to bag a top six place yet this campaign and would have no doubt liked to be in the promotion hunt.

Those places aren’t a million miles away, with the side only ten points off six place with plenty of games left to play. However, their destiny is no longer in their hands and they will now need other teams to drop points as well as winning games themselves too.

Cowley then might have to prepare for a proper go of it next season – and he may already be putting plans in place for how to make his squad even better next time around and launch a real bid for a place back in the Championship, with The News reporting that he was at the Northampton game at the weekend.

With the club a league lower, it could certainly have been to keep an eye on potential transfer targets at either Northampton or their opponents Hartlepool. The Pompey boss will definitely have his eye on some players already considering how close we are to the summer transfer window and he could have been doing some recon on potential targets whilst his club were not in action.

Who he was keeping an eye on was not clear but the man has previously staked an interest in some of the Cobblers squad.

Whether he reignites that interest or not is again unclear – but the manager is clearly doing his due diligence while he can ahead of the summer.
