Marcus Harness provides update on his future at Portsmouth

Marcus Harness has been a standout performer in a frustrating season at Portsmouth with the club likely to miss out on the play-offs once again under Danny Cowley.

Harness has chipped in with 11 goals and four assists in all competitions and, crucially, the club have an option to extend his contract by a further year this summer.

The 26-year-old is a huge player in pushing on towards a promotion push next season on the South Coast and he had his say on his future at the club when he spoke to Portsmouth.co.uk.

Harness said: “Nothing’s changed for me.

“I’ve seen things in the press but we haven’t had a conversation yet.

“That’s all I know at the minute.

“I’m here next season, if that’s the case, but nothing’s been done at the minute for me so I’m just waiting to see.

“Yeah, of course (I’d like to stay).

“I’m a confident player and I’ve got that contract and the clause is there.

“All I know is I’m a Pompey player next season.

“The aim has always been to get promoted here and the aim is to keep working towards that and see what happens.”

Ronan Curtis has stayed put at Pompey in recent years even though he has demonstrated on numerous occasions that his ability would allow him to play at a higher level, it is a credit to Cowley and the atmosphere he has created that Harness is on board to go again next term.

Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers have all been very competitive since coming down from the second tier last term, with Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic
