Daniil Medvedev warns 'one player is going to die' live on TV amid intense US Open heat

Tennis star Daniil Medvedev asked for his US Open quarter-final to be postponed mid-match - declaring 'one player is going to die' in the intense heat in New York.

Medvedev was taking on Andrey Rublev at the Billie Jean King tennis centre and temperatures reached as high as 32 degrees during the third set of their showdown. Both stars are top ten seeds and had eyes on a semi-final but the intense temperatures visibly affected play with pundits and commentators noting the players were 'struggling to breathe' in the conditions.

TV cameras then caught Medvedev as he came over to towel off between games. He had complained to the umpire about the heat and then told cameras: "One player is going to die, and then they'll see." The match though has played on despite the conditions with the winner set to face either Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev in the semis - with a final against Novak Djokovic or Ben Shelton on the agenda come Sunday.
